1 TANFORAN TURF NOTES f 8 Crowns Pride, three-year-old chestnut colt by Iron Crown Aunt Mary by Uncle, has been leased by E. A. Neely to Bob Ahearn. The California-bred son of Iron Crown will be conditioned by Pete Gross. Jockey Jack Westrope has been signed to ride W. B. Simpsons Stands Alone in the ,000 added Marchbank Handicap next Saturday. Westrope also received the riding assignment of Townsend Martins Cravat for the Dixie Handicap at Pimlico. Harry Walters, Oregon turfman, will soon present a new rider to California racing. The youngster is Douglas Dodson, 17, a next-door neighbor of Walters, who got the riding urge when he saw some battlescarred veterans galloping in the Walters paddock. The Charles S. Howard horses almost monopolized training interest Friday morning. Advocator, prepping for the Marchbank Handicap, worked an easy mile in 1:44. Sorteado stepped three-eighths in :35, handily, and Kayak H. went along in :36, handily. Apprentice William Schrier, 17, of Los Angeles, Friday made his saddle debut on White Legs in the eighth race. He is under contract to Ace Hudkins. The good three-year-old Fast Flight, working exceptionally well after having been freshened up, is ready for silks again. Another good one, Short Notice, a top notch sprinter, is likewise ready for action again. Jockey J. W. Bailey, shaken up by a fall when working a two-year-old Thursday, left for Los Angeles Friday. He plans to take a short vacation. Jockey W. Dennis departed for Hollywood Park, Thursday, -and will air horses until the opening of the meeting at that point.
