1 CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES f $ Horsemen here were shocked to learn of the death Tuesday of John Cortie, for many years manager of the Winona Stock Farnij owned by the estate of the late W. F. Knebel-kamp. Cortie, who- apparently was in good health, hanged himself. A. J. Mueller was among the latest arrivals from Hot Springs. He came with four horses and they are quartered at Douglas Park. Jockey Joe Rosen, who is accepting mounts at Keeneland, will commute between Louisville and Lexington. He is attached to the stable of E. Dale Shaffer, whose horses are at Churchill Downs. R. T. Runnels, a recent arrival from Florida with American Byrd and Co-Sport, will receive two two-year-olds from Latonia the end of the week. The youngsters are the property of W. H. Whitehouse, of Cincinnati, who also owns American Byrd.
