Ridden by Ruperto Donoso, he : i "added ,410 to the earnings of his victories in the Chesapeake Stakes and over El Chico 1 in an overnight race. ~ A fair-sized crowd was present for the Survivor running despite threatening weather , earlier in the afternoon. The Wheatley en- • -try went postward at odds of 1 to 5 and Gilded Knight proved the shortest-priced winner of the meeting to date. NEVER EXTENDED. Confidently handled by his Chilean pilot, Gilded Knight was never extended. He was 1 rated at the heels of Sea Captain. He was on the outside of him until after straightened out in the stretch. He did only what was necessary to win by a length, not being " touched by the whip. Sea Captain was put to a hard drive to 1 repel Sun Lover, which had moved up fast along the rail rounding the second turn and [ bounced into Gilded Knight when attempting to go between the Wheatley pair when reaching . the stretch. Unable to budge Gilded I Knight from his position, Sun Lover went ; back to trail and was about to overtake Sea [ -Captain when he weakened. Day Off faltered badly after being close up j to the pace for nearly three-quarters, while -Trailer dropped back steadily in the stretch [ after being under mild pressure to keep within striking distance in the early stages. DARK RAPTURE FIRST. The sport, as usual, began with a dash of _four and one-half furlongs that was fashioned for two-year-olds, and of the eight youngsters that met over the abbreviated distance Alvin Untermyers Dark Rapture, ruling a strong choice, was victorious. All in colors were fillies, and the graduation of the bay daughter of Gino was accomplished -in easy fashion when she led by a wide margin from the fall of the flag. Johnsons Circus Wings led the others. Mrs. A. J. Abels inconsistent sprinter, Grand Duke, beaten at short odds in his last appearance under colors, was a surprise winner of the second race, a test of six furlongs that attracted a limit field of cheap platers. Coming from behind under the handling of jockey L. Hardy, the six-year-old son of Stimulus was winner by a length over Sun Antioch as Carnarvon landed third. PROMOTER GRADUATES. Unsuccessful in seven attempts at brackets last year and defeated in his first appearance in jumping events this season, Promoter, from the Mrs. James Parks stable, finally escaped from the non-winning ranks when he accounted for the two miles of the claiming steeplechase. He took the measure of Montpeliers Sailors Knot by a wide margin, as Skimalong captured third. There was only one mishap in the running of the contest when Happy Joe became distressed and fell at the last jump, leaving six to finish the entire distance. Scorch, owned by Mrs. E. H. Augustus and the favorite, proved best of the nine maiden juvenile fillies clashing at four and a half furlongs in the fourth event, taking the lead at flag fall and holding it throughout under the direction of Charles Stevenson. J. Bopsts Good Reception was second, two lengths back of the daughter of Gino and Sunstream and a similar margin before Shandon Farms Annie Alone. Dans Folly was fourth. In one of the most exciting finishes of the afternoon, J. A. Manfusos three-year-old filly Accidental defeated ten other Maryland-bred horses of her own age when she landed major honors at the close of the six furlongs fifth race. She won by inches at the immediate expense of J. H. Louchheims Bla-blah, which was heavily supported. Three lengths away Maroc was third over the eight others. Jockey Johnny Adams, riding his second winner of the Maryland season, was astride Accidental. He brought the filly up from fifth position to wage a hard battle before she was confirmed winner.
