LATEST PREAKNESS WORK I * — — I BALTIMORE, Md., May 9.— Impound displayed his readiness for his engagement Saturday in the Preakness this morning when he breezed a mile and a furlong over the Pimlico course in 1:56%. The Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt hopeful, which was third to Johnstown and Volitant in the Wood Memorial and second to Gilded Knight in the Chesapeake Stakes in his last two starts was under strong restraint all the way as he did the half mile in :50, three-quarters in 1:15 and the mile in 1:41%. Seen in "blowouts" this morning in preparation for longer trials tomorrow were Volitant and Day Off, both going a half mile. The Saratoga Stables colt was timed in -48 and the Greentree Stables Louisiana Derby victor in :51. Johnstown, Gilded Knight, T. M. Dorsett and some of the other likely Preakness starters also may be asked for speed tomorrow to complete their hard training for Saturday s race and to acquaint them with the -Pimlico track.
