1 NARRAGANSETT PARK NOTES I o ยง Racing secretary Bob Shelley expects a field of twelve or fourteen for the Newport Handicap, ,000 added, at a mile and a sixteenth, the feature of the closing day. Twenty-nine were nominated originally for this event and with twenty-two of these now on the grounds, the starting field may exceed Shelleys expectations. A telegram was posted on the bulletin board in the racing secretarys office notifying horsemen that Lincoln Fields stakes will close May 10. The halter brigade has been far from active at Gansett this spring. Only eighteen claims have been registered, with A. J. Halliwell leading the claimers with three. J. B. Partridge wired Gansett officials Tuesday that he was shipping Our Ketcham here for the remainder of the meeting. Stage Beauty, Mrs. P. A. Shaws four-year-old filly, will make her first start of the meeting in the Attleboro Purse Saturday. Miss Mona Manya, well-known ballroom dancer, who is campaigning Ai-Ling and others here, inspected her horses Tuesday morning. D. J. Sullivan has purchased the ten-year-old Brandon Prince from P. Fitzgerald at private sale. Sullivan formerly owned the horse. Trainer L. Avant has taken the contract of apprentice Robert Ross. The boy is eighteen years old, weighs 91 pounds and has ridden in fourteen races at Detroit.
