« Ohio News and Notes BEULAH PARK, Columbus, Ohio, April 30. Al Miller will race 12 horses for I. J. Collins, chairman of the Ohio Racing Commission. They are Bob Hi, Wise Fire and Randy B., all four-year-olds; Sam G., Fairly Fly, Pitch n Toss, Sunny Heels, Arisickle and Tryling, all three-year-olds, and the juveniles Ducky Q., Lady Tom and Flying Kiss. Rapid bus service is planned by the Columbus-Grove City Bus Co., for Columbus racing fans. The buses will leave the Greyhound Terminal, Town and Third, every half hour and will go directly to the track. Returning, the buses will leave Beulah every half hour and immediately after the last race. J. T. Simmons is awaiting the arrival of the horse Wood Chopper from Louisville, Ky., which he will campaign at the spring meeting for H. C Genter, Illinois sportsman. Genter acquired Wood Chopper via the claiming route last year for ,200. In addition to Wood Chopper, Simmons also will race Smarty. Stable cancellations have been surprisingly few. Jack Hayes has changed his plans and will not race his stable at Beulah, as has G. H. Pearce. The Beulah Park office has a waiting list of more than 25 owners, who are anxious to ship to the Grove City course in the event stall accommodations can be provided. Bronnenbergs brother, Jerry, has decided to retire temporarily from racing and devote his full time to farming at Dale-ville, Ind. Jerry has sold his two horses, Miss Persel and Grecian Time, to J. W. Johnson, who will race them here. Recent arrivals among the owners and trainers include W. E. Harned, W. E. Frease. C. C Kranz, Marion Allen and Charles Granneman. Harned s stable consists of Stairs and Be Prepared, the former having won two races at Keeneland. Additions to the colony of stables here from Tropical Park include those of H. H. Price, M. Gerspacher, J. Neville, C A. Allen, Leo Clous, D. Jardon and W. B. Arndt. Bobby Reeves got in from Louisville, Ky., with the Rivermont Stable. The shipment also included the veteran Prince Danny, which he trains for Mrs. Reeves. Dave Sodders checked in with the stable he trains for Miss M. Hodge. Another addition to the colony of horsemen was Charles Granneman. Additions to the jockey colony include Willie Prehm, Arnold Anderson and Karl Horvath. Jimmy DeWitt is due to arrive within the next few days from Phoenix. In the string that trainer Bobby Reeves shipped from Louisville was the handicap star, Zoic. J. E. Irvines stable at Beulah Includes two recent acquisitions — Alcinous and General Leonee. Jimmy Bronnenberg checked in from Daleville, Ind., with the stable he trains for his wife. The lineup consists of Distract, Snow Flower, Sly Kitty. Flag Song Glimmerlee, Miss Marilyn, Laay Flight and Odd Star, all winners last year. Among the horses that will carry the colors of Leo Clous at the forthcoming spring meeting is White Hope, winner of two races during the recent Florida season. White Hope, five-year-old Pilate gelding, was acquired from J. Wormser. Gillis Goshen, Columbus, Ohio, sportsman who lost all of his horses in the recent fire at Beulah, announced today that he plans to remain in the sport, although he has not as yet purchased any new campaigners. f Recent additions to the colony of owners -trainers at Beulah include Sam Kilpat-rick. W. W. Hill, J. A. Whiteside, J. B. Latta and Dr. E. E. Watson. Due to check in soon is the Briner-Hammack establishment, which is Lancaster-owned. K. S. Cleveland, trainer for J. D. Rogers, has shipped eight horses to Churchill Downs. The shipment consisted of Little King Pin and seven juveniles. Remaining at Beulah are 16 Rogers horses, including Soup and Fish. Sweeping Wind, which was burned in the fire that leveled a barn and claimed the lives of 11 horses two weeks ago, was reported somewhat improved by trainer Leonard Lynch, Sweeping Wind is on the shelf indefinitely. i New Discovery, owned by the Hopeful Stock Farm of Kentucky, is the latest nomination for the fourth running of the ,500 added Governors Handicap, scheduled for Beulah Park May 23. B. H. "Brownie" Held, assistant racing secretary, will begin the registration of horses Monday. Held will be in charge of the office until Fred Burton, racing secretary, arrives from Keeneland. « Among the many newcomers here will be owner-trainer Vernon Arthur, whose stable includes the fleet sprinters, Real Boy and Hiblaze. Arthur will ship to Grove City from Havre de Grace. Undoubtedly the lightest member of the colony of reinsmen will be the veteran Charlie Hanauer, who scales only 90 pounds and is 4 feet 9*2 inches tall. Forty-five of the stables that will be raced at the spring meeting are Ohio-owned, 12 are Indiana-owned, while 11 are the property of Kentucky sportsmen. Wesley Freeman and Bud Ray of starter W. C. "Bill" Dalys ground crew got in from Phoenix. An arrival here from Miami, Fla., was J. D. Cook, who operates Beulahs photofinish machine and public address system.
