Kopla Accounts for Ral Parr Staked Whips Tellmenow By Three Lengths Louchheims Juvenile Leads At All Markers — True North Disappoints Pimlico Crowd BALTIMORE, Md., April 30.— Making his first start since finishing second to Hygrohour in the Bowie Kindergarten Stakes, Jerry H. Louchheims Kopla served notice that he is still to be considered in Marylands two-year-old championship by being an easy winner of the Ral Parr Stakes at the Pimlico course of the Maryland Jockey Club this afternoon. Hal Price Headleys Tellmenow, making her local debut after finishing fourth in the Lafayette Stakes at Keeneland, was the runner-up two lengths back of the Okapi colt and length and one-half in the van of J. L. Sullivans Hygrohour who only lasted to head Christiana Stables Quillon for the minor award. Then came Howe Stables True North, winner of the Aberdeen Stakes and Gay Venture to complete the small field that dwindled from 14 named overnight. The winner, True North and Hygrohour picked up the top assignment of 122 pounds and True North again showed his bad disposition by attempting to run out at the stretch turn. He was a 3-to-5 choice. The sport was attended by a crowd of 11,000 and Kopla was one of the many surprise winners. Under a perfect ride on the part of Albert Shelhamer, Kopla, who was registering his fourth victory in eight starts, ran the four and one-half furlongs in :5345 and in his second stakes victory earned ,750 for his Philadelphia owner. True North Breaks on Top There was a delay at the start but Jim Milton sent the sextet away in perfect order with True North the first to show. He was unable to match strides with the winner who went into command before entering the turn. Kopla however did not draw clear until nearing the stretch and a furlong from the finish he was two lengths to the good. Hygrohour had supplanted True North as the runner-up, but he was unable to withstand Tellmenows fine charge and only lasted to outfinish Quillon who also closed with belated speed. Gay Venture always was the trailer, being four lengths back of Quillon entering the final quarter mile. Mora was astride his second winner, this time for the Christiana Stable, when he drove High Command to a surprise victory in the fourth race, which attracted another capacity field. Imperial Impy was the runner-up and third went to Fogoso. The public installed Maroc favorite and he bore out badly when holding a contending position at the stretch turn. His un-ruliness eliminated Bull Whip and Double B., who were on the outside of him. Blen-weed, second choice, dropped back after three furlongs to be the trailer at the end. Mora rode Piccadilly in the opening event. Hal Price Headleys Equinox was eliminated from Preakness Stakes consideration when he was a well-beaten fifth and disappointing favorite in the Riderwood Purse and seventh contest. Firebroom ors, with Coochs Bridge outfinishing Cals ors, with Coochs Bridge outfinishing Cals Pet for second honors. Blue Steel, who raced with the winner to the stretch, was fourth.
