Half a dozen horses, the property of John L. Sullivan of Texas, arrived at Suffolk Downs Saturday morning for the meeting. They were joined over the week-end by 20 others in charge of trainer Joe L. Roberts, one of the largest strings on the grounds. Jockey Johnny Deering will come along to do the riding. Air Master, recent record-breaker, and Transfigure are the handicap mainstays of the stable. Jockey Jimmy Berger was an arrival from Kentucky to join the Valdina Farms at Suffolk Downs. The boy, a brother of Maurice Berger, who performed with so much success in New England several years ago, was the second top rider at Keene-land and leading apprentice at that meeting. He lost his "bug" several days ago. He rides at 102 pounds. The blue and white silks of W. C. Stroube will flash into action at Suffolk Downs for the first time in several years as trainer Mickey Harrison unloaded 15 over the week-end. The Stroube horses have been racing in California for several seasons. A number of two-year-olds were in the shipment, including the good Teentee and Oomph. B. B. Williams is making his first Suffolk Downs stay, arriving from Kentucky with eleven head for C. C. Van Meter and T. B. Cromwell. Four others will be shipped from Churchill Downs in the next few days to join the main division. Williams is but another of the numerous newcomers to New England for the local season. An old-time New England favorite, the game Dolly Val, returns to Suffolk Downs for the 60-day meeting which opened Monday. She is now the property of Mrs. Francis Misasi and has been nominated for many of the local stakes. Larry Paradise is in charge of the seven-year-old mare. Jockey Ken McCombs is on hand from Maryland "to ride for the stable of Gustave Ring, trained by H. H. Battle. The Ring stable, topped by the older Ringie, also includes the two-year-olds Ringmenow and Hasteville. The latter is rated one of the top youngsters of the season. Thomas J. Kelly, well known popular van man on the New England circuit for the past several years, has written friends from Australia, where he is a member of General MacArthurs forces. Paul Andolino received word that his mare, Lady Bewithus, well remembered for her races around New England, has foaled a good looking colt by Reaping Reward-in Kentucky. Harry Dicenzo, one of Narragansetts newspaper distributors since racing came to Rhode Island, reports from Fort Ruck-man, Nahant, Mass., the hope that he will make a good soldier for Uncle Sam. The Narragansett Park stewards rescinded their ruling against Herb W. Fisher and he has been restored to good standing. Jockey Milton Briggs and apprentice J. Santer packed their tacks and departed for Charles Town.
