LADY TENNIE, having much speed to follow in pursuit of the pacemaker and racing on the inside, moved into the lead midway of the stretch drive and came away under steady pressuie. MERCILESS, away quickly and setting a good early pace, failed to eet clear and tired in the drive. SEVENTEEN GUNS went in the first flight and was hard ridden, but could not get to the leaders. SHY MISS was_placed forwardly, raced sliehtly green and was held safe. MEADOW SUN was unable to enter contention. MISSY MARY, racing very greenly, ran out badly after leaving the back stretch. GLASPORTE had no speed. MAGIC RING ran out on the stretch turn and was pulled up. MACIE MARGARET, outrun for five-eighths and working her way forward on the outside, drove to the inside when closing strongly in the drive and wore down the leaders in the last seventy yards. TRIUMVIRATE, hard ridden and within striking distance of the leaders, reached the pacemaker on the stretch turn and fought it out gamely in the driv. BLACK BASS had good speed to set the pace and saved ground to the stretch turn, then drifted out in the drive while tiring. JACOTTE dwelt slightly at the break, then could not get into contention. ELTONHEAD raced well for five-eighths, then tired. WAR TARGET was used up maintaining a forward position. INDIAN SEA dropped back earlv. BILL K. showed little. DARTING STAR, following the pacemaker closely early, went to the front leaving the back stretch, bore out badly when straightened into the stretch, rallied stoutly and barely lasted. SIR JEROME bore out on the first turn to fall back, secured racing room on the inside when rallying and just failed to get up. BRONX II. was strongly handled and raced well. MOST ALERT closed stoutly on the outside. CASAD moved into a forward position gradually, then hung in the drive. SANDY MANDY lost considerable ground on the stretch turn. SIGNBOARD went well for five-eighths. GLYNLAND flattened out badlv when challenged. JIM, alert at the break, saved ground on the first turn to take command, shook off FRANK BROOKE, then, holding on strongly after meeting strong bids from OVERBOST, outstayed BALKANESE in the drive. The latter, steadied back of the leaders for a half mile, drove up on the inside in the last throe-eighths and finished determinedly. OVERBOST engaged the winner leaving the back stretch, but failed to stay under punishment. FRANK BROOKE was a keen contender to the stretch turn. MY ONE was in the thick of the forward contention from the start, was steadied along in the back stretch, wore down IDA TIME, took command, but could not stall off the winner. EBONITO was well placed from the start, was hard ridden and closed willinely. IDA TIME was sent to the front going to the first turn, drew clear of MY ONE, but tired gradually after being displaced. AFTER ORCHIDS raced forwardlv on the outside to the stretch and tired. FAIR HERO had early speed and tired gradually. BELL ORMOND was outrun. DELCHARM was throueh earlv. PEACE DAY could not get to the leaders, yet closed eround. MILKYMOON challenged repeatedly while forcing the pace, but failed to hold on. STORMINESS beeai t.ring after a half. WHO REIGH, slow to begin and allowed to gain full stride, worked his way up stoutly in the last five-eighths, drove up between horses on the stretch turn, finished strongly on the outside of YANKEE LAD and was up in the last seventy yards. YANKEE LAD, rated back of the leaders, went to the front after three-quarters, then held on well in the drive, but pulled up lame. HIGH BLAME, prominent throuehout. made repeated challenges and held on well in the closing test. ROUGH GOING moved up with a stout challenge on the stretch, turn, then tired. J. HAL wore down SUMMER STOCK, but tired badly. PERSIAN QUEEN raced evenly. SUMMER STOCK was used up setting the early pace. ZULA ISLE raced poorly. Overweight — Persian Queen, lj pounds; Zula Isle, 5. CERTAIN PARTY, abreast of the winner to the stretch turn, tired fast in the closing test. ARA-ORNIS was prominent all the wav, but was no match for the first two. ULTIMA THULE started slowly and was always held safe. HEART PLAY could not threaten. LYCONNA showed little. CONNAMISTA started tiring after three-quarters. SECOND BEST had no mishaps.
