Prepare Dade Park Plant For Annual Summer Meet Put Racing Strip in Condition At Western Kentucky Course OWENSBORO, Ky., May 14.— The one and one-eighth miles racing strip at Dade Park is being put in readiness for the summer meeting, which will get under way Saturday, August 8, and continue through Monday, September 7, Labor Day. A number of improvements are being made in and around the plant to better accommodate the racing fans. Carpenters, painters and Other workers are busy putting the western Kentucky racing establishment in order for the 19th meeting under the present management. The track, located on U. S. Highway 41, 1 just north of the Ohio River, between Evansville, Ind., and Henderson, Ky., was formally opened in 1922, but closed follow- I ing the first meeting. James C. Ellis, presi- j dent of the Dade Park Jockey Club, took the track over and staged his first meeting j in 1925, and since then has conducted a meeting every year. Mr. Ellis is of the opinion that the 1942 meeting will be one of the best sessions in the history of the track, with business above the average in the cities in this territory. Lester E. Yeager, resident manager, has received numerous applications for stable reservations, and expects that a number of outstanding thoroughbreds will be quartered at the track during the meeting, because of the suspension of racing on the Pacific Coast for the duration of the war. The stables will accommodate more than 600 horses. The racing cards will be made up of geven races daily, including Monday, with eight races being scheduled on Saturdays and Labor Day.
