The five-year-old gelded son of Black Warwick never left the issue in doubt when he surged to the front as the break came. Jockey D. MacAndrew permitted his mount to draw away to a good lead rounding the first turn, then took him in hand and, rating him along nicely, came on to win with plenty left. Purling Light was far back in the early stages of the mile and a sixteenth event, but under punishment in the final quarter mile he moved up steadily to take the place award from the tiring Lactose, who lasted to garner third money. Yondell E. and Speedy Squaw, the only other two to compete, were distanced throughout. The Grant Park was contested over a sloppy racing strip, and the time for the race was 1:54%. The winner.
