Harkim Popular Repeater at Churchill Whips Flash Town 1 In Sprint Feature William B. Simpsons Colt Comes to Finish With Two And Half Length Advantage LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 15.— Harkim, three-year-old son of Stimulus and Risky Gal, racing under the silks of W. B. Simpson, scored a handy triumph in the Lookout Stock Farm Purse, six and a half furlong feature at Churchill Downs today. Given a clever ride by Johnny Adams, who was completing a double, Harkim enjoyed a two and a half length margin over A. L. Fergusons Flash Town at the finish, while the latter was a length and a quarter before Shadybrook Farms Kokomo, third. The Simpson colt was stoutly backed by the good crowd present and his victory was most popular for he returned odds of 9 to 10 after turning the distance over the muddy course in 1:21. Only six started in the sprint and starter Ruby White sent the field off in perfect alignment. Marmac was first to show out of the stalls, but that gelding bore out badly and lost his advantage before going a sixteenth of a mile. Flash Town displaced Marmac and at the first quarter post held a two-length lead on Treemontier, who was a half length on Lady Romery. Harkim, racing fourth at this stage, was permitted to go along evenly until leaving the back stretch. Harkim responded readily when roused near the stretch turn and, after disposing of Flash Town, increased his margin steadily to the close. Kokomo, who had been far back until reaching the final quarter, made a bold bid in the drive, but was not equal to catching the flying leaders. Unquote Easy Victress Due to a break-down of the regular stall starting gate, it was necessary to start the fifth race with a flag. The break was poor, probably due to the fact that none of the horses had been schooled to the old-style manner. Peter Tokalon won the mile and a sixteenth event; Double Value was second and Pigeon Gold third. Peter Tokalon paid . The colors of Herbert M. Woolfs Wool-ford Farm were carried to an easy victory In the third race by Unquote, homebred daughter of Insco. This race engaged ten of the better platers at six furlongs. Given ft good ride by Ovie Scurlock, Unquote came to the final marker two lengths in front of Raoul Espinosas Counterbalance, who led Mrs. F. P. Letelliers Linger On by five lengths. Favorite players got off to a good start when the even-money choice, Wise Barrister, representative of G. T. Williams, took a three-quarter length decision at the end of six and a half furlongs in the first race. Brutus finished second and Symphon earned the show from the five other starters. E. E. Pershalls Smokin Ott proved best of the twelve maiden two-year-olds in the second race at five furlongs. Well ridden by Johnny Adams, Smokin Ott was a length and a quarter in advance of Tip Your Hat at the wire. Hit It, a "field" horse, finished third and the favored Mirror Lake could do no better than fifth. Smokin Ott paid .60 in the straight mutuel pool.
