Branmintan Back in Form At Suffolk Downs Track Shows Way Home to Pompeco by Two Lengths in Saugus Purse BOSTON, Mass., May 15.— Branmintan, a gelded son of Brandon Mint and Min-tana who races for Mickey Walsh, well-known show ring rider, returned to his winning ways here today when he trounced a fair field of three-year-olds in the Saugus Purse, six-furlong allowance race which featured the program at Suffolk Downs. Closest to the winner as he hit the wire with two lengths to spare, was J. H. Louch-heims Pompeco, the favorite. The latter came from far back around the turn and down through the stretch to earn the place, three and a quarter lengths before Mrs. C C. Winters Paircais. Walter P. Chrysler Jr.s Natomas, who ran coupled with Bui-: | rush, wound up fourth. Well supported, Branmintan, who won two straight at Narragansett before he finished fourth behind Mixer in his last outing, paid .80 in the mutuels as he accounted for the third victory in his career embracing four starts this year. The Reynolds Brothers Powder Bluff was out to set the pace. The Lost Cause gelding did not retain command for long, however, as First Son, who ran coupled with the favorite, rushed up to take over. The latter gave way to Branmintan turning for home. Down in front of the stand the Walsh gelding continued to open ; up on his opposition after once getting to 5 the front, although W. E. Snyder did not put him under pressure in the final furlong, i ; 5 i Carroll Bierman, leading rider at the still young meeting, continued to display excellent riding skill. The Southern Illinois jockey, who is here with the Valdina Farms stable of Emerson F. Woodward, had three winners to his credit going into the seventh race.
