Crete Distribution Totals 50,000 Arrange Value of Various Overnight Events to Bring Out Better Type of Horses CRETE, 111., May 15.— With a quarter million dollars in prize money attached to stakes and races to be run at Lincoln Fields during the meeting of 30 days opening Monday, the racing at this first of Chicagos major tracks to operate may be expected to compare with or surpass the the best entertainment seen here in years. The Lincoln Fields Jockey Club has arranged purse disbursements in such a manner that more overnight events are of sufficient value to draw out all the better performers in the many strong racing establishments here or coming for the five-week season. For example, the Will County track will offer a number of ,500 overnight features together with many events worth ,000 each. The smallest purse will be 00. Twenty-five thousand dollars of the tracks cash earmarked for racing prizes will be distributed in five stakes, the most important and valuable events scheduled. These added money features will topline the Saturday and holiday programs and they are patterned to bring into championship competition the best in a number of t classes. For horses three years old and older four stakes are reserved. They will ! be run at distances of six furlongs, one mile and a sixteenth, one mile and three-sixteenths and one mile and a quarter. Crete First Stake of Season The Crete Handicap will decide the sprint champion of the meeting when it is run at three-quarters on May 23, while middle distance honors at stake in the mile and a sixteenth Francis S. Peabody Memorial Handicap on May 30 and the more sturdy stayers will come to grips in the La Salle Handicap at a mile and three- : sixteenths on June 13 and again in the i Lincoln Handicap at 10 furlongs on the , final day, June 20. J Another classification provided for in i the stakes schedule is the freshman, or i two-year-old, group. These youngsters will provide the featured contest in the Joliet Stakes at five furlongs on June 6. a Indications at the time nominations for t these stakes were about to close* pointed f to large entry lists for all.
