Sportsmans Park Ends Banner Meet Popular Half-Mile Course Offers Fine Getaway Card — Cant Lose in Headliner CICERO, HI., May 15.— Sportsmans Park, in staging its final program for the 1942 spring meeting of nineteen days, will offer one of the best cards that has been presented to the fans of this half-mile oval since this course was converted to a running track. Although an "off" track is certain, horsemen have given their support in making it possible to give the patrons the best in thoroughbred racing this plant has seen. All eight events are packed with contention and both features bring out the best horses that are stabled on the grounds. The Phil Regan Purse, which will be run as the fifth race on the getaway-day card, will be the feature offering of the afternoon. This event brings together nine of the best sprinters in training on the grounds. The Hernandez and Bonner entry seems certain to go postward as the public choice at post time. Cant Lose, a three-year-old gelded son of Carlaris, a recent purchase by Mrs. H. P. Bonner, of Fort Worth, Texas, is the class of the race, and from all his recent races should be hard to stop from taking the major portion of the ,200 purse that is put up by the management. His first appearance here was a disappointment to his many backers as he finished third to such horses as Equistar and T. M. Dorsett, but as it was his first attempt at taking the turns on a half-mile track he should improve a great deal from that race. Hernandez and Bonner Entry The other half of the Hernandez and Bonner entry is Golden Goose. This three-year-old gelding was just nosed out in his last outing here by Miss Militant at seven furlongs, the same distance that he will be required to compete in here. The game son of Messenger and Golden Maid set all the pace in that try but failed to hold the Paul L. Kelley colorbearer at the finish. With an "off" track, this gelding should be able to take care of the others. Others scheduled to appear in the Phil Regan are such good sprinters as Lichema, James Quest, Bellcoda, Bobs Dream, Outbid, Latent and Tetros Jr. Secondary feature of the wind-up program will be a test for three-year-olds and older at the route distance of one mile and one-sixteenth for a purse of ,200 value. This event has only seven entered overnight but should provide a very interesting battle. This race, which has been titled the "Chez Paree," will be run as the sixth offering on the card. The Lookout Stock Farms Beamy looms as the colt to beat. Having only made one other start at this meeting, this colt has shown that he can take the turns and was second to Daybreak, beaten only a length and a quarter at seven furlongs. His recent, workouts are very good and he should improve greatly from that attempt. Butsey Hernandez is sending another of his stable to compete in this route test. Valdina Paul is a winner of a race during the 19-day season and all his efforts have been very good. The Chez Paree is rounded out with the good distance performers, Cherry Trifle, a winner here; He Man, who is making his first start at the meeting; Relious, a hard-knocking horse; Moselem and Vegas Justice.
