JFour Face Aonbarr In Closing Fixture One of Most Successful Sessions in History of Derby Oval Ends Today LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 15.— Churchill Downs will conclude a most successful 19-day spring meeting Saturday. The Louisville course has enjoyed one of the best sessions in its long history, attendance and wagering having shown a decided increase over that of previous years. Seven stakes already have been decided at the South Louisville oval, and tomorrows program will be highlighted by the 24th running of the Kentucky Handicap at one mile and a furlong. Calumet Farms mighty Whirlaway accounted for this years renewal of the Clark Handicap, the Derby Trial fell to Valdina Farms Valdina Orphan and the Debutante Stakes, annual two-year-old filly fixture, was won by the Brown Hotel Stables Trustee. R. C. Stables Royal Crusader was the victor in the Churchill Downs Handicap, Carney and Ramseys Navy Cross accounted for the Bashford Manor Stakes and, of course, Greentree Stables Shut Out earned top honors in the all-important 5,000 added Kentucky Derby on May 2. The 68th running of the Kentucky Oaks saw Brownell Combs Miss Dogwood turn back 10 other good three-year-old fillies. Five of the outstanding routers quartered at the Downs were named overnight to contest in the Kentucky. Top weight of 115 pounds for the test is assigned to Miss Helen Hickmans Aonbarr, who ran Whirlaway to a head decision in the renewal of the Clark and was later defeated by Royal Crusader in the Churchill Downs Handicap. Joe Dyer? vet-teran jockey, who handled the Hickman racer in all of his important engagements during 1941 and 1942, will have the mount on Aonbarr tomorrow. R C Stables Royal Crusader, victor in the Churchill Downs Handicap on April 30, will answer the bugle under an impost of 114 pounds and he will have the saddle services of Arthur Craig. Royal Crusader gave a splendid effort to account for his previous stake triumph when he turned the one-mile distance in the sparkling time of 1:37%. He enjoyed a length and a quarter advantage over Aonbarr in that performance, while J. E. Wideners Moscow II. took third. Mrs. Carl Grahams silks will be carried in the Kentucky by the greatly improved Boss Hoss, who was defeated by only a half length in the running of the Perry-ville Purse last Monday. Boss Hoss gave fine account of himself in that outing, bowing to Equifox after racing in brilliant fashion. The Graham colorbearer will start under 105 pounds. Arcturus Stables Pink Gal will complete the field for the Kentucky and she will go postward under 104 pounds. The five-year-old daughter of Slave Ship and Maximaneh is the only one of her sex to accept the issue and she will be ridden by Fritz Weidaman. Shelley has arranged an excellent supporting card and the final day of the Churchill Downs spring season should prove a banner one. Post time for the initial offering will be at the : usual hour — 2 p. m.
