BOSTON, Mass., May 15.— The sixth running of the Governors Handicap, ,000 added one mile event which will feature the first Saturday of racing during Suffolk Downs 60-day meeting, drew one of the largest fields to be named for a handicap in the history of the sport in Yankeeland. Eighteen horses, including two entries, were entered this morning and while scratches are expected to deplete that number by race time, nevertheless, a large field will answer the bugle for the big event. Those named include Circle S Ranchs Hysterical, John L. Sullivans Air Master and Transfigure, Valdina Farms Viscounty and Fairmond, Mrs. Charles E. Nelsons Alaking, J. W. Y. Martins Abrasion, L. B. Mayers Sir Jeffrey, J. H. Miles Itabo, Phil Biebers Maechance, Bern Stables Master Henry, J. R. Macombers Side Arm, Coldstream Stables Tragic Ending, E. C. Eastwoods Challamore, Gustave Rings Night Glow, Mrs. Dorothy Roberts Jay Stevens, B. B. Robinsons No Competition and B. A. Darios Master Key. Trio Shipped from New York Three of the horses, Master Henry, Sir Jeffrey and Itabo, were shipped in from i New York to run in this event. Hysterical will carry top weight of 122 pounds and Ted Atkinson has been engaged to ride him. The Trace Call gelding has been in j New England since the season got under way but this will be his first appearance under silks since his arrival. Master Henry, Sir Jeffrey and Itabo have good races in New York to recommend j them. The Bern representative, in partic- | j ular, finished second in an overnight allow- i ance event and is right up to a top effort. j Clarence Buxton is conditioning the Car- I laris colt and Chuck Wahler, an apprentice ! sensation around New York, will ride him.! j Of the field, Challamore, Maechance and I | Abrasion were also named for the Point I I Shirley Handicap, six-furlong secondary I attraction of the card and may scratch to | run in that event because of the unwieldy ! field in the feature. Bernard B. Robinsons No Competition will probably attract the bulk of the public support. The Bull Dog colt is well placed under 115 pounds and Warren E. Snyder will ride him. The coast representative won his last outing when he accounted for the Rhode Island Handicap. 0,000 added event, which featured the Narra-gansett Park spring meeting. No Competition probably wants a little more distance than the mile he is asked here, but he has enough speed to contest the issue if he keeps out of trouble in the early part of the affair. John L. Sullivan Entry The John L. Sullivan entry will go to the post with considerable support because of the excellent race Air Master made in Maryland, when he established a track record at Pimlico. In a more recent effort he finished fifth behind Whirlaway in the Dixie. Transfigure is also the kind of a horse that could surprise. Johnny Deering will ride one of the Sullivan horses. , I : The Valdina Farms stable has run some fit horses here and will also send a well- backed entry to the post. If Viscounty, , who was a New England favorite two years ago, runs back to one of his better races he could upset the dope here. The son of The Porter is usually at his best in the ] early spring. Carroll Bierman is the Val- | dina rider. Fairmond is an importation « who came to this country well recom- 1 mended, but hasnt run his best as yet. There will be nine races on the Saturday 1 card and post time will be 2:30 p. m.
