Novice Jockey G. Potter Astride Another Winner Guides Marcap to Victory at Detroit Before 29,000 Fans FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 30. — With ideal weather conditions and a fast track prevailing for the Memorial Day sport at the Motor City racing grounds, an enthusiastic gathering of about 29,000 patrons jammed the spacious plant. Several outstanding attractions were listed for decision on the holiday program, the 1946 renewals of the 0,000 Col. Alger Memorial Handicap, the ,000 Decoration Day Handicap and the Old Glory Purse. Theodore D. Buhls locally-owned Air Sailor was the early choice for the one mile and one-sixteenth Col. Alger, while David Fergusons Ariel Ace was rated best of the six three-year-olds entered for the six-furlong Decoration Day Handicap. Novice jockey Gordon Potter won his second race here in as many starts, piloting Miss M. Demersts Marcap to an impressive two and one-half lengths triumph in the six-furlong third race. Marcap, forwardly placed from the start, forged to the front entering the stretch and then increased her advantage steadily during the run to the wire. Audrey M., held on willingly to earn second honors by a half length from Fannie Mac, who was third in the field of eight starters. Marcap won her first succes of the year, ran the three-quarters over the firm strip in 1:16 and, an outsider in the speculation, returned her backers 6.20 straight. J. Claude Sawyer saddled the winner of the first race, sending B. H. Wises Fort Vancouver out to earn a clever verdict in that six-furlong sprint. Fort Vancouver paid .20 in the tote and raced the distance in 1:13%. Mrs. Raymond Grundys Ben Gray accounted for the second race, defeating Victory Blue, Sin Lee and six other older sprinters. Ben Gray completed his trip in 1:14, was 2!2-to-l in the tote and completed the Daily Double, worth 8.80.
