Eight Speedsters In Detroit Event Blenhara Expected to Be Favored in Palmer-Wendell Purse for Three-Year-Olds FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 30. — The Palmer-Wendell Purse, a six-furlong sprint for three-year-olds, is one of the better offerings arranged for presentation tomorrow at the Woodward Avenue course. Eight horses from the age division are named for the dash and W. L. Huntleys Blenhara is expected to enjoy the post of favoritism over her rivals. Blenhara finished second in her last two appearances under silks and she has worked splendidly for her 1946 Motor City debut. S. I. Crews Carasanara and Henry Forrests Mimzy are to race coupled and Carasanara showed occasional flashes of class during the spring campaign in Kentucky. Crazy Whirl, Red Torch, Paloma Linda, Sweep Play and Niecesue round out the probable starting band for the headliner and Crazy Whirl along with Sweep Play are accorded excellent chances to upset some of the better regarded entrants. Cavalcade Handicap Tomorrow In the meantime at the Detroit track, Saturdays program is expected to prove one of the best of the current Michigan season. The 0,000 Cavalcade Handicap, a one mile and one-sixteenth test for three-year-olds, probably will draw a crack field and, according to word from Charles Sanborn, trainer for the David Ferguson stable. Bob Murphy, who won the 1946 renewal of the Arkansas Derby and then raced smartly in the Kentucky Derby, will make his seasonal bow. Bob Murphy may meet formidable opposition in such performers as R. S. McLaughlins speedy Wee Admiral and Gregalach: Mrs. George C Whites Bright Steel and Mrs. Earl H. Beezleys Sweep Play, among others. Although the Cavalcade is the week-end headliner, the ,000 Border City Handicap also should attract a stellar field of sprinters. The six-furlong secondary attraction probably will bring out W. L. Huntleys Umpydan, victor in the 0,000 Boots and Saddle Handicap: Mrs. G. C. Whites Diamond Dick, Albert Wellmans Detroit-owned Many Lands, O. F. Woodwards Sir Sprite, A. F. Walls Tiger Man, Mrs. James L. Chesneys Play Hands, Hartwick and Bag-leys Son Forever, conqueror of Errard during the Churchill Downs meeting, and, possibly. Jimmie, a representative of Mrs. Roy Carruthers.
