s y i 1 ! , Notforme Gives Novice Potter His Third Win Veteran Fisher Gelding Easily Best in Opening Detroit Event FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., June 6. —Notforme, racing for L. and R. J. Fischer and ridden by novice rider Gordon Potter, was the easiest sort of winner of the six furlongs first race in which eight engaged. Rated closest to the pace of Ecomodate on the backstretch the winner disposed of the latter on the turn and drew out to coast across the finish line seven lengths before J. A. Kinard Jr.s Snappy Verse with third going to the faltering Ecomodate. It was Notforme s second start at the meeting while Potter was riding his third winner of the year. The winner was installed favorite and returned .40. Ecomodate flashed into a clear lead immediately after the start while the eventual winner was racing next in line on the outside. On the turn Notforme raced Ecomodate into submission and went on to draw into a clear lead which was increased as he loped to the finish line. Snappy Verse improved his position steadily on the inside and was fortunate to secure room on the rail entering the home lane to save ground and oust Ecomodate from the place award at the furlong pole. Overcast skies did not deter a crowd estimated at 15,000 from turning out to witness the days sport which was headed by the six furlongs David D. Buick Purse that attracted five shifty sprinters and was run as the sixth race. The card was rounded out with evenly matched fields in each of the supporting contests.
