The Hollywood Gold Cup this year will not want for a sufficient number of good horses to make it an attraction of nationwide interest, though it already is appar- ent that several of the big names among the 74 nominees will be con- spicuously absent on July 27, the date . for which the 100,000 run of a mile and a quarter is scheduled. Two who have little or no chance of making the mid-summer special are Louis B. Mayers Busher, last year the nations outstanding thorough- bred, and Miss Ethel Hills War Knight, hero last spring of the. Santa Anita Handicap. Neither is in serious training and only a miracle could have them ready for such a test as the Gold Cup annually presents. Busher still is only making periodical gallops and it is understood that veterinarians have recommended that she be given another year before being subjected to the rigors of hard training. It is doubtful that she will be seen before the Santa Anita meeting.
