Elmo T. Scores in Role Of Odds-On Favorite Finishes Two and Half Lengths Before Free Transit at Suffolk SUFFOIiK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., June 19. Mrs. CP. Amodies fleet sprinter, Elmo T., rewarded his many backers that made him an odds-on choice, by scoring a two and one-half length victory over M. Levels Free Transit in the Everett Purse, fifth and featured offering at Suffolk Downs today. Mrs. F. Whitings Santa Elisa, coupled with Mt. Desert Stables Baruna, closed fast through the stretch to earn the show award, a nose in the van of E. Snyders Ariel Actress and three lengths back of .Free Transit. The six-furlong sprint was contested under ideal weather conditions that brought out 17,667 fans. After a delay of 12 minutes, in which time it was necessary to make a substitution for jockey Willie Duffy, who was injured when his mount. Tiger Call, squeezed his leg against the starting gate. Starter Bob Frend sent the field off winging, with Chris Rogers, the new rider on Tiger Call, sending the Lip-son and Kane gelding into a two-length lead in the first quarter. Free Transit and Elmo T. were taking their time, never too far back. Nearing the far turn, the leader started shortening stride, as FreeTransit moved up to challenge for command, and the winner was beginning to make his move. As the pair neared the furlong pole, Elmo T. had forged to the front, but Free Transit wasnt through and Claggett reached down and prodded his mount, who responded to draw out for a decisive score. In accounting for his second victory of this year, Elmo T. covered the six furlongs in 1:11, and paid a .80 mutuel.
