Six Distance Performers Test Speed In Letellier Purse at Detroit Track Meat Ball Expected to Be Favored Over Paducah and Surf Rider in Nightcap FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., June 19. The conditions for the seventh and eighth races on tomorrows card are identical in so far as eligibility is concerned but the seventh named the C. B. Irwin, is at six furlongs, while the eighth, titled the Frank P. Letellier, is at one mile and a sixteenth. These are claimers in which the prices range from ,250 to ,750, and are the best of the days offerings. Topping the supporting races is the six furlongs B. B. Rice purse, an allowance affair in which seven fair older sprinters are engaged. The racing strip is rapidly drying out under continuous harrowing and a brisk wind following heavy and frequent rainfalls and the number of starters in the races are satisfactory and conducive to truly run contests. In the final race of the afternoon Gris-som and Shermans Meat Ball appears to be placed with opposition that should be well within the limitations of his best effort. Charles Williamsons Paducah accounted for his latest race over this strip and looms as the most formidable opponent to the top one. Swift Legion is another that accounted for his latest venture and the Mrs. Vernon Cloud representative rates serious thought. Henry Torrientes Surf Rider has been consistently close in recent engagements and while he has failed to score his fitness is obvious and his opponents in the seventh race are not too tough. Gallant Hour will carry the bulk of public support on the strength of his excellent record which includes victories at Oaklawn Park and Chicago. The W. T. Beezley oldster, a son of Morvich, needs only to run kindly to make his presence felt. Kurkjian and Dilgers My Zaca lost his rider in his latest outing when well fancied. With, better racing fortune he could be troublesome. E. Gay Drakes Swoon is nicely placed in the B. B. Rice Purse that is sixth on the card. Gifted with a nice flight of early speed and second in her latest venture, she is nicely placed here. Her most serious competition would appear to come from M. H. VanBergs Wilma Van,, and Grissom and Shermans Lees Summit. Nominations close tomorrow for the Motor City Handicap, the George M. Hen-drie and the Lassies Handicap to be run on Saturday. The Motor City carries a 0,000 prize and is for three-year-olds and upward, at one mile and a sixteenth. The Lassies caters to two-year-old fillies at five furlongs with a ,000 purse as the inducement, while the George M. Hendrie Handicap is a six furlongs dash for three-year-olds and upwards for a ,500 prize.
