Hurst Philpot Takes Over Conditioning of War Knight HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., June 19. Hurst Philpot, who saddled Miss Ethel Hills War Knight for his 1944 victory in the 0,000 Arlington Handicap, again is the trainer of the horse. He succeeds Charles T. Leavitt, who had directed the horses training for more than a year and who geared him for his victory last spring in the 00,000 Santa Anita Handicap. Leavitt resigned as trainer of the Hill horses several days ago. Philpot also has taken over the training of two other of Miss Hills thoroughbreds, Capt. Absolute and Slick Chick. War Knight, who has been on the inactive list off and on ever since he won the Arlington Handicap, has been able to stand only the lightest training this spring and though he has been made eligible for the Hollywood Gold Cup there is little or no chance that he can be made ready for that 00,000 run of a mile and a quarter on July 27.
