UP GRADE, fastest away, was steadied close to the leaders on the outside, disposed of WOW after a stiff tussle in the stretch, then held BROWN HOSTESS safe. The latter was forwardly placed from the beginning, responded well to hard urging and continued stubbornly. WOW was sent into a short early lead, saved ground while racing with the winner, but gave way in the drive. CINDY LEE raced forwardly and evenly in a good effort. GAY ROVER was unable to improve his position under pressure. HI BERT was unable to engage the leaders. Scratched 99205 Artillery Bob, 112. DAI YIT, well handled, was not hurried while being steadied close to the leaders, disposed of SEMPER AVANTI to take command in the stretch and held SENATE safe in the drive. The latter, a stout contender from the beginning, saved ground and closed stoutly under urging. SEMPER AVANTI was sent to the front on the outside on the turn and hung on stubbornly. MIBOB, a forward factor while saving ground, was unable to improve his position. GHOST HUNT raced evenly. BORDER SCOUT was done early. Overweight My Blitzen, 4 pounds; Pattoy, 3. Mibob claimed by M. FLORIZAN SAM was steadied in a contending position in the backstretch, went to the outside to go around the leaders on the turn and withstood a stiff challenge from BOLD QUESTION. The latter, sluggish in settling into stride, was taken to the outside to move up stoutly cn the turn, was then taken to the inside in the stretch and finished gamely. DODOS GIRL raced evenly and forwardly in a good effort. VICTIM had early speed to open a clear lead and saved ground, but quit badly. INCRESCENT showed nothing. DAVID B. JR. flashed early speed. SEAPAR, permitted to settle in stride, moved into closer contention in the backstretch, went around the field to take command entering the stretch and drew clear. GOLD BILL trailed early, improved his position gradually, made a stout bid through the stretch, but was not good enough. TOP SERGEANT was rated in a contending position throughout, but was unable to improve his position when placed to pressure. ECOLIRE forced the pace of ESCOLAR to the stretch, then quit. ESCOLAR stumbled entering the backstretch when in command, regained the lead and saved ground, but quit suddenly as though in distress and pulled up slightly lame. BRADWIN, confidently ridden was permitted to settle into stride, moved into closer contention easily in the backstretch, went to the outside to take command in the stretch and drew out easily. TUMULT was sent into a clear lead immediately, was rated in front and gave way to the winner, but continued stoutly. SWELL KID, on the outside all the way, closed some ground, but was not dangerous. PLUCKY MUFFIN forced the early pace and flattened out in the drive. JEANAVIE was never a serious factor. HERES HARVEY showed nothing. DISTANT ISLE could not keep up. Scratched 00201 Plantagenet, 114. In a ruling handed down by the stewards the purse won by Gypster here in the sixth race on June 12, race No. 00505, has been ordered forfeited on report that urinalysis of the horse showed presence of benzedrine. In reallocating the purse, San Yet, who finished second, was given first money; Wise Paisano awarded place money; Vice Admiral, show, and Castleman, fourth.
