St Jock Triumphs In Massasoit Purse Takes Measure of Odds-On Blenweed Under Licausis Good Handling at Suffolk SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., June 20. S. D. Sidells St. Jock, drove to a head decision over J. L. McKnights Blenweed, the pronounced favorite of the 15,407 patrons here today in the Massasoit, a ,000 mile and a sixteenth allowance test for four-year-olds and older. Five lengths back of the top pair was Franklin Stables Chuck. Apprentice Joe Licausi, who escaped injury in what appeared to be a serious fall yesterday when the T. C. Melroses Wise Sue crossed her legs and stumbled, put up an excellent exhibition of horse backing in holding the six-year-old gelding together in the final 70 yards after the three-to-five shot, Blenweed, had drawn abreast of him at that point. Incoming Scratched The field of seven originally named over night for the feature, was reduced by one when trainer Reggie Cornell withdrew Mrs. D. B. Millers Incoming, who would have been coupled with the winner. The Sidell racer saved ground going to the first turn, disposed of Chuch, then was steadied along while enjoying a clear lead. Nearing the half-mile pole, Hettinger astride Blenweed, began moving on the outside and appeared to have a running horse beneath him. Coming into the final bend Licausi brought his mount out off the rail but still handnt gone to bat. It was at this point that the real test began and the favorite was gaining at every stride. Licausi reached down and prolled St. Jock a couple of times, then put his bat away and did some fancy hand riding. The winner responded nicely and it was a ing-dong battle to the wire, with Licausi lifting his charge over in the final strides and in doing so accounted for his second win of the afternoon.
