In Earnest Returning To Competition Today Danada Red, Alison Peters to Be Calumet Racers Rivals in Sprint ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, 111., June 20. Warren Wrights fashionable Calumet Farm, which has one of the largest stables on the grounds, but whose colors have seen comparatively little action this year, will send out the good three-year-old, In Earnest, against a fairly clever field of sprinters in the Untimatum Purse here tomorrow afternoon. While the majority of the Calumet representatives have been held in the barn because of coughing or other ailments, the bulk of the earning power has been generated by the marvelous gelding, Armed, who has captured six stakes for the "Devils Red" this season, and who is expected to add considerably to his record in the Equipoise Mile, Stars and Stripes Handicap and other fixtures scheduled during the combined stakes schedule at Arlington and Washington. In "Earnest is one of the Calumet problem children. The potentiality of the colt was lauded by Ben Jones after he won one of his two races as a juvenile and when he brought him back to the races during the Florida season the veteran conditioner was even more favorably impressed and expressed the belief that the colt probably would make his presence felt in the Kentucky Derby. In Earnest took to his early Derby prep with abundant zip and after he captured a pair of races at Keeneland, Jones began to bubble with confidence. Declared From Derby Then, in the Blue Grass Stakes the colt faltered badly and couldnt match the late speed of Lord Boswell and Pellicle, and several days later in the Derby Trial at Church Downs he "fell to pieces" completely and finished far back. This caused Jones to declare him from the Derby and take him out of training. Several weeks of taking it easy made a great change in the colt, according to Jones, and now he is on the way back. The Untimatum seems especially well suited for his attempt to return to good form, for the seven-furlong dash should serve as a splendid barometer. If he shows any indications of revealing his former promise, Jones will sight his guns on the Classic Stakes and other three-year-old fixtures here and at Washington Park. In Earnest will be called on for some fancy foot against the small field of six in the race that is designed for Class D thoroughbreds. One of the solid horses of the race is Mrs. Ada L. Rices Danada Red, a four-year-old son of Hairan Absolution, who flashed keen speed in New York before heading in this direction. Danada Red will carry topweight of 122 pounds and conditions appear to suit him extremely well. Hell have the stables contract jockey, Basil James, in the saddle, and according to his past performances he has enough speed to be in the thick of the fight all the way. In his most recent race he triumphed over a group of shifty competitors when he downed Proof Coil, Megogo, and others in a one mile race at Belmont Park. James took him to the front soon after the start that afternoon and he led the remainder of the distance. Alison Peters, who will carry 119 pounds in the sprint, is one of the stars of the Jule Fink barn. On June 3 he raced in the Queens County Handicap at Belmont Park and at one stage of the mile and one-sixteenth journey he was six lengths to the good. However, he tired in the final stages and finished last in the three-horse" race to Helioptic and Lets Dance. Prior to that he showed noteworthy form against some of the better sprinters around New York. Others in the field are Mrs. Emil Dene-marks Fire Dust, E. Wortmans Risky Hash, and the Shady Brook Farms Merry-march.
