Bashford Manor At Downs Course Phar Mon Seen as Favorite Of Thirteen Slated to Vie In Two-Y r ear-Old Offering CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 9. — The 1947 renewal and the forty-sixth running of he 0,000 Bashford Manor Stakes, traditional five-furlong dash for two-year-old colts and geldings, is to hold the spotlight tomorrow at the Kentucky Derby oval. When entries closed here this morning, 13 top flight youngsters from the original group of 114 nominations were named to contest the half -holiday feature and the race shapes up as one of the better juvenile offerings of the current season. Under the allowance conditions of the Bashford Manor, William Veenemans Phar Mon is to carry top weight of 127 pounds. Phar Mon, a quick son of Easy Mon and Penroyal, victor In the Hialeah Juvenile and Keenelands Lafayette Stakes, has trained exceptionally well for his Churchill Downs engagement and he Is to have the saddle services of Steven Brooks. Along with Phar Mon, Tiger Flash, a son of Tiger — Humane, is to go postward under Mrs. Veenemans colors and his impost is 122. Willie Lee Johnson will ride Tiger Flash, according to trainer Warren Gale Douglass and the Veeneman entry undoubtedly will answer the bugle favorite. Lenoils Trials Impressive Madison Stock Farms home-bred Lenoil, who graduated in New Orleans during the Fair Grounds meeting and then shipped to Kentucky and won two races, is not so fashionally bred as some of his rivals, but he, nevertheless, has shown sufficient speed to be rated dangerous. Lenoil will take up 122 pounds and his morning trials have been very much on the fast side. W. J. Waldens Circus Clown is another promising youngster that must be accorded an excellent chance in the week-end head-liner and his best effort here was a smart triumph over Tiger Flash in the Black Toney Purse.
