Silee Works Impressive Seven-Eighths at Downs CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 9.— Samuel Sidells home-bred colt! Silee, a son of Sir Jim James and Hallie, recently returned to training by L. V. Bel-lew, Jr., promises to be a serious factor in the three-year-old division. Silee visited the training track here this morning and worked an impressive seven furlongs in 1:29%, handily. Not asked for high speed at any stage of the move, Silee, conqueror of Jet Pilot in the 1946 renewal of the Commonwealth Stakes and victor in the Miles Standish Stakes, passed the half-mile marker in :49 and the six furlongs in 1:16. The Sidell star, winner of six starts as a two-year-old, pulled up satisfactorily after his useful trial. Augustus and Nahms Eternal Reward, winner of the American Derby at Washington Park last year, stepped five furlongs in 1:02 handily, while Calumet Farms Fervent, whom trainer B. A. Jones rates very close to Faultless, went three quarters in 1:18% handily. Fervent, fired for a splint in March, seems to be returning to top form and the Blenheim II. colt, who won the Walden Stakes from Faultless, came out of his work nicely.
