Havre de Grace Second Meeting Begins Monday Sprint Field for Philadelphia Handicap Now Taking Shape HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., May 9.— While interest in Maryland racing centers on Pimlico this week, where the Preakness and Dixie top the program, preparations are going forward steadily at this point for the 13-day second spring meeting which starts May 12. Most of the performers who raced here at the first meeting and then moved on to Pimlico, are expected to return for the second local session and then depart either for Delaware Park or Atlantic City. Racing secretary and general manager Charles J. McLennan has decided to close the entries for the first days program at Pimlico on Saturday, feeling that most horsemen will be at Pimlico and that closing the card there also will facilitate handling of the entries by the press. The second meeting will get under way with the Philadelphia Handicap, formerly the Susquehanna, as the chief attraction. This sprint, over the six-furlong distance, is worth 0,000 and such steady-going speedsters as Sollure, Neddiecan, Pep Well, Sea Snack, Rippey, The Doge, Air Patrol and New Moon are eligible for it. Four other stakes are on the agenda during the 13 days of sport. Three-year-olds will have their opportunity when the 0,-000 Potomac is run at a mile and a furlong on May 17, while on Wednesday, May 21, the Havre de Grace Breeders Stakes for Maryland-foaled Juveniles is carded. The 0,000 Havre de "Grace Handicap is listed for May 24, with the distance a mile and a furlong, and then on closing day, Monday, May 26, the Eastern Shore Stakes for juveniles at five furlongs will headline the card. It is worth ,500.
