LONGEINE assumed command at once, drew out into a comfortable lead, saved ground and was smartly ridden out at the end. JIMS JEANIE, fractious at the gate, worked way up between horses to close stoutly when clear. GAY ROVER, forwardly placed, loomed as a threat on the final turn, then faltered. TWO DOWN closed gamely on the outside and bled slightly in the late stages. IDLE FOOL made up ground under steady urging. HANDSOME BILL had good speed in forcing the pace, then weakened. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. LIGHT COUNT, in close quarters nearing the far turn, was eased back and sent to the outside, then responded to stout pressure and was up in the final strides. JOPIER engaged JOE M. JR. for command, held a slight advantage into the stretch and held on gamely under pressure. JOE M. JR. saved ground after relinquishing command and pressed the leader to the final yards, then faltered. BAD COLD, forwardly placed, moved to the leaders when straightened in the stretch, then failed to rally under pressure. CELTICS had no excuse. MAGIC HEELS showed a good effort. OLD UNION lacked early speed. VALDINA GREEDY bore out slightly when set down. HEMFOX was never a serious factor. Scratched— 222222 Private Howie, 113. Overweight— Celtics, 1 pound. ON THE WAY responded to steady pressure, assumed command inside the final furlong and drew out. HULLABALOO forced the pace from the start and held on gamely. GREEN HAVEN overcame early interference to close with a rush. JIG TIME had no excuse. ARIEL BREEZE tired. LYDS BOY broke toward the inside, causing a slight jam and was straightened immediately, then went evenly. LUCKY INCIDENT was taken up sharply when impeded and never recovered. LINWOOD JACK disposed of FLEET BROTHER after a half mile, drew into a comfortable lead, saved ground and maintained advantage under light urging. SIR KID, forwardly placed for three-quarters, moved up on the outside to challenge the leader, w then flattened out. ALCINOUS made up considerable ground on the inside. BR00KLANDVILLE moved through on the inside nearing the stretch turn to loom as a threat, then faltered. JAC0P0 MEXICO was taken back off the pace, remained in hand to the far turn, then failed to respond to urging. CHANCE CROSS was never a serious threat. FLEET BROTHER quit. ERICA showed nothing. RUBE was hustled from the start to gain command on the first turn, was under pressure while engaging JOES SUN, remained closest to SUN BEAU GO as the latter took command, then raced true in the stretch to outfinish GILDED TRUMP. The latter, under restraint for six furlongs, moved readily when set down, then hung at the end. SUN BEAU GO moved into command when ready, raced wide on the final turn, then refused to extend himself while bearing out all through the stretch. JOES SUN weakened. KNIGHTHOOD lost all chance when rider drove into a switch at the first turn. LEAP YEAR LASS passed tiring horses. COUNT I. Q. flattened out after a half. CAROLINA RE8EL raced very greenly. HYGROS FLIER, kept under steadying restraint while saving ground, was steered to the outside of the leader nearing the furlong pole, responded to pressure to gain the lead and drew out. VERA CONNELLY, forwardly placed from the start, rallied mildly under steady urging. DOIT EASY was under steady urging to gain command, drew clear, then faltered under pressure. GROUSER broke slowly, worked way up gradually and finished willingly. PLAY SOME, sluggish at the start, made up ground nearing the end. LUMPKIN remained with the leaders to the final turn, then weakened. MUCHAS GRACIAS showed nothing. MUSICAL KID had brief speed. The others were outrun. HUCKLE DE BUCK, caught in close quarters soon after the start, bumped ABLE MARINE while bulling way through, was steadied after getting clear and responded to urging while on the outside to overtake ISLE DE PINE in the final strides. The latter took command entering the stretch, was put to a steady drive and just failed to last. GREMY, in hand while with the leaders, rallied mildly when set down and pressed the leaders to the end. ABLE MARINE recovered after being impeded to finish stoutly under urging.
