Blue Mountain Defeats Builder by Neck Margin Marks First Winner of Career For Apprentice J. DAugustino SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 9. — Displaying his best form, John F. Becks Blue Mountain covered the five furlongs of the featured Franklin Park Purse in 1:02?5, the fastest time for the distance at the meeting, and drove to a neck verdict under the guidance of apprentice Joseph Edward DAugustino, who was scoring his first saddle victory. The success of the winner was registered at the direct expense of Anthony Ferraras favored and fast-finishing Builder, who was three parts of a length before H. G. Knotts early pace-maker, Whosyourgal, who had dominated the running into the late stretch. Blue Mountain was overlooked by the talent to return 3.60, as he scored his second success of the year. Apprentice DAugustino is a Chicago lad, under contract to Alphonse Schwartz, and is 21 years of age. Whosyourgal had speed to outrun her nine opponents in the run to the first turn as Brown Dame was next in line before the eventful winner. Brown Dame could not keep up and Blue Mountain moved into second place as the leaders swung into the backstretch. Here, Whosyourgal was able to increase her lead but DAugustino sat chilly as a veteran permitting this advantage. On the final turn the order of the leaders was unchanged, but Blue Mountain was asked for speed to reduce the advantage of Whosyourgal and Doras Son, who had never been far away, moved up on the outside to race in third place momentarily. Meanwhile, Builder had not been fully extended as he raced within reach of the pace, but set down he surged around the outside. In the drive through the home lane Whosyourgal surrendered ground. Gingerly Blue Mountain swept up on the outside and it was at this juncture that Builder was asked for his best. This proved sufficient to dislodge the weakening v - . ■ Blue Mountain, who had taken a short lead inside the sixteenth marker, v.*., ii%,c felVe way.
