Senators Trounce White Sox, 7-1 South Siders Lose j Third Game in Row Pierce Blasted From Mound In Seventh; Marrero Hurls Third Consecutive Victory By the United Press Cuban Conrado Marrero won his third game of the season yesterday, limiting the White Sox to nine hits while his Washington - Senator teammates pounded Billy y Pierce and Bob Mahoney for a dozen bin-gles and a 7 to 1 victory before 4,058 fans. Third baseman Eddie Yost was the hitting star for the Senators, clobbering a home run and a double to drive in three runs. | Yost accounted for the first Senator tally j in the third when he scored catcher Mike j Grasso, even though grounding into a dou- ble play. The home run, his first of the I year, provided the eventual winning mark- j er in the fifth, even though Washington counted twice more on Mike McCormicks : single, Irv Norens double and Mickey Vernons single. I The final Senator tallies, in the eighth, chased Pierce to the clubhouse after Vernon and Sam Mele singled and Cass Michaels doubled. Mahoney walked Grasso intentionally and Yost then doubled for two counters. Nothing Ball Works Perfectly Marreros "nothing ball" was working lg perfectly and the Sox could score only in n the third, when Pierce walked, advanced on a single by Chico Carrasquel and scored J I on Floyd Bakers single. Marrero previously beat the Athletics twice, on a one hitter " j and a six hitter. Sox manager Paul Richards, obviously showing some concern over the fielding efforts f- of his newly acquired Orestes Minoso, £ moved the Negro sensation to left field in order to keep his batting power in the ie line-up. Baker, the Sox hitless fielding perfectionist, took over at third and the result It was a turnabout of what would be ex- s" ] pec ted. Minoso went hitless in four trips to 5 the plate, while Baker came through with a single and a double as did Carrasquel. The remainder of the Sox hits were re I doubles by centerfielder Jim Busby and 1C* ; pinch-hitter Ed Stewart, and singles by oy eecond baseman Nelson Fox and Pierce. Every Washington player but shortstop 3p 6am Dente had at least one hit, with Mccormick, c- Vernon and Michaels also garnering r- two.
