I., N Y., May 3.— A host the better grade horses quartered at Belmont Park went through speed trials this morning. Some of the top flight campaigners are readying themselves for engagements at this track and the others are receiving serious preps for the approaching meeting at the Belmont course. Renew, from the King Ranch barn, extended herself over the one mile distance Belmont Park, getting the tightener over the main strip. A recent victress at this oval, Renew s next tentative outing is the Firenze Handicap here on the weekend. She was timed the mile in 1:38. Gaffery, Foxcatcher Farms candidate top honors in the Firenze Handicap, which attracted 31 nominees and is a 0,000 added event for fillies and mares, was tried at six furlongs and came to the end in 1:1525.
