Seven-Horse Field Goes In Charles River Purse Sunnycrest Gal-Queen Zac Entry And Major Kay Vie for Favoritism SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 3. — The Charles River, a ,500 allowance dash at six furlongs for four-year-olds and upward, heads tomorrows off-day program at Suffolk Downs. Seven have been named in the overnight field, including a coupling of Sunnycres Gal and Queen Zac. Each is trained by J. Purpura. The latter pair will be making their seasonal debuts at the Downs, as will the probable favorite, H. J. Aprils Major Kay. The trio recently arrived from Gulfstream Park. With a record of a second and two firsts in that order before shipping north, Major Kay needs only to duplicate his recent form to continue the success for his Massachusetts owner. Incidentally, it will his initial start for April, who claimed the son of Good Drive — Miss Kay Cee out of ft his Florida finale for ,000. So consistent has Major Kay been during the recent it winter months that he has been under ;r three owners since February, all via the ie claiming route. O. L. Fosters Jeans Jay, a winner here :e last week of a six-furlong sprint from B which the present owner claimed her for jr ,000, looms as the chief rival to Major r Kay, In her last six starts, Jeans Jay has is earned some portion of the purse money, y, winning two of those races. The conditions is of the Charles River calls for horses which h have raced for a claiming price of ,000 10 or lower this year and which have not won m three races. By that token the six-year-old Id mare is graciously qualified. Although a a majority of her rivals have raced in better ?r company, their success has been at the ie level which Jeans Jay has been performing ig so well. Queen Zac won a pair of sprints in Florida r- during the winter months and needs is only to duplicate either performance to be e a decided threat tomorrow. Mud, which h does not appear probable at this time, e, would increase the chances of Queen Zac. c. Sunnycrest Gal is a worthy stablemate, e, having sped six furlongs in 1:11ft at Gulf-stream f- Park to account for her only score •e in eight starts this year. A repeat of that it race would seem to be good enough in the ie Charles River. The others in the feature are Lawful, il, Big Inch and Ventana, with each figuring ig close on their best effort. n ., v * e n e II e 0 s ,r it i- be e
