Demand Welter Recognition For Turner After Jack Win PHILADELPHIA, Pa., May 22 UP. — The Pennsylvania Athletic Commission will not recognize any welterweight champion who has not met 20-year-old Gil Turner, undefeated Philadelphia slugger/ Commissioner John "Ox" DaGrosa announced today. Turner, 143, used repeated right hand . blows to the jaw to score a convincing technical knockout last night over Beau Jack, 145, the former lightweight champion from Augusta, Ga. It was young Turners twentieth straight professional victory and his eighteenth knockout. He decisioned Jack in the same ring last April 18. A crowd of 4,649 paid 3,451 to watch Turner rip into Jack continuously until referee Charley Daggert halted the fight at 1:26 of the eighth round. There were no knockdowns.
