WHITSUNTIDE quickly established a clear lead, drew away from his opposition and won easily. ROZS BOY was always well placed, but was no match for the winner. STEVIE DEAR broke alertly and turned in a creditable effort. -ONE AND ONE lacked early speed. JACO began sluggishly. COMET BOY had early speed and faltered. FOUR JACKS tired. G. I. CARRY ME BACK was outrun early,, improved position from the outside when gaining best stride, withstood a bold threat from MASTER BRIAN and drew out. The latter, also slow to reach best stride, lost ground while moving up, made a bold bid in the stretch and faltered. MID REWARD gained the lead briefly between calls in the stretch, but weakened in the drive. REVENGER saved ground and had no excuse. LADY ROUNDERS quit after making the pace early. HELLO DREAM was outrun. RAMAJO quit. OUR BETSY showed nothing. LOST KEY was through early, as was SENATOR DILL. BAND LEADER jumped cleanly while alternating for the lead and gradually drew clear under punishment in the run to the finish. MY GOOD MAN handled the task well while dueling with the winner for the lead, but was not good enough in the closing stages. RANK was always a sharp contender and held on determinedly. TREPID, within striking distance throughout, lacked a closing rally. LECHE HOMBRE weakened slightly in the run to the wire. PHALANGER came out of the race very lame. SALEMAKER refused at the eighth jump. SON DESPRIT lost rider at the sixth jump. ROLL CALL II. refused at the sixth obstacle. REPOSE jumped greenly and fell at the second jump. TINA LAZAR assumed the lead shortly after the start, drew clear in the stretch, increased- her advantage under mild encouragement and came back to the winners enclosure suffering from a left hind stifle injury. MLLE. ELL veered out at the break, was unable to match strides with the winner, but held on gamely. BLESSUSGALS had early speed and tired badly in the final furlong. GAELIC GAL was outrun. BATTLEFIELD hesiated the first stride away from the gate, went between horses to be on nearly even terms for command, drew clear without urging and was steadied along the final furlong. NULLIFY had to be cautiously handled while on the inside nearing the turn, was placed in hand for lack of room leaving the turn, closed resolutely, but did not seriously menace the winner. GENERAL STAFF was with the first flight on the outside and faltered slightly in the drive. NORTHERN STAR lost some ground on the turn, but was best of the others. AWAY AWAY was forced to race wide on the turn. -JACK THE GREAT made the pace between calls along the backstretch and gave way after a half mile. LORD PUTNAM was through after a half mile. SLEEPY HOLLOW was forced to race wide after a slow beginning. LORD GRAIL tired, as did GOOD WILLIN. WARFIB was rushed into contention and quit. LEE SHORE quit after showing early speed. APPROVAL was permitted to drop back early, went up with a rush on the outside when called upon, drifted out badly in the final furlong and lasted over BY ROAD. The latter, never far back, had to be placed in hand when blocked and hemmed in on the final turn, came through on the inside when clear and just missed. BURTS REWARD moved up rapidly when called upon and gained the lead briefly between calls in the stretch, then faltered. ISPAHAN, far back early, finished with a belated rush. GOOD TIMER dropped back when blocked on the rail on the final turn. GOOD STORY moved through on the rail to be in the lead and tired. WOODSIDE tired, as did DEMAVEND.
