j i I I I The Blue Goose Accorded Edge for Honors Monday I Veteran Mare Among Ten Seeking Featured Sprint at River Downs RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June 5. -Mondays eight-race card will usher in the first full week of racing of this 44-day meeting. Although the program is dedicated to the claiming performers exclusively, it does not detract from "its interest, and it is difficult to ascertain which of the events will induce the largest handle. The seventh race, as is the custom on week-day cards, occupies the feature spot. For Monday it is entitled the Hotel Alms and is a six-furlong d?sh for four-year-i olds and older horses. It was one of the extras which racing secretary and handi-capper Eugene W. Bury hung up, as it were, when his feature in the book failed to fill, but the conditions have drawn some of the more consistent ,000 platers i j stabled in this area. S Comprising the field are H. Fisfers Col-ilege, H. M. Simpsons True to Me, Mrs. J. Bronnenbergs Sultaness, Mrs. F. Bau-mans 1 Jerky., Mrs. M. Rinkes Forest Belle, I Mrs. E. Julians FiddJin Mac, A. L. Coopers i ! Cherry Stone, Jack Hodges The Blue Goose, and Margaret J. Smiths Pins N . Needles. I i It is a difficult field to separate to de-, tannine which of the contestants will wind j up the favorite. The Blue Goose accom-i i plished about everything asked of her while campaigning at Beulah Pprk. The aged The Sultan mare was very mildly campaigned for 1951 and 1C52 and did not race in 1953, but has evidently again reached her peak. Though she may be stepping up the ladder somewhat to what she downed for her victories, she cculd furnish contention in this band. Sultaness is another worthy candidate for the major portion of the ,300 purse, Another offspring of The Sultan, she turned in some admirable races at Beulah, among them two conrecutive victories, a second and a third. Ker victories were amid ,000 and ,250 company, and she was the favorite both tjmes. From all indications, the track will a?? in be fast by in time for this race Monday, and she, too, cannot be overlooked in the betting. Jerky has had but two entires this year, but finished a strong s-.cond to Seeley Kjllpatricks Howdy Howdy trie last time out. The Halcyon mare, has campaigned vrivh better than she is to" meet in this affair and could, show to good advantage.
