Grier, trained by F. Dougherty; bred by Mrs. E. H. Fleitas. IN GATE-5:09. OFF AT 5:09 EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME. Start good. Won driving; second and third the same. FACES EAST, always within striking distance, assomed a clear lead leaving the final turn and, though tiring during the late stages, had enough left to prevail over MERMAN. The latter, sluggish early, came to the middle of the track for the stretch run and rapidly was wearing down the winner. BATTLE MOUNT rallied too belatedly to become an endangering factor. RAFFY moved up boldly after being straightened for the drive, but faltered when punished. AVON LADY lacked early foot. PINOSTRES tired. MIGHTY SON was outrun. PASSING JACK quit, as did PREJOLI. FAMERA was through after a half mile. SORAYO and SWORDET both retired steadily after flashing brief speed. Scratched 19094 Geoffrey G., 117. Overweight Battle Mount, 1 pound; Miss Dow, 1.
