The Pie King Bucks Shins During Running of Debonair HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood,. Calif., June 8. Johnston and Bells The Pie King, Englands juvenile champion of last year who made his American debut in last Saturdays Debonair, is ..undergoing further treatment for the shin complaint which bothered him ever since his importation here. He bucked his shins in the Debonair and co-owner E. B. Johnston reported the colt is being blistered. He estimates The Pie King will be back in racing fitness in from three to five weeks. The "Pie King made a creditable enough showing in his first American start, considering that among his opponents was the "Kentucky Derby winner, Determine, who won the Debonair. The Johnston-Bell colt raced with the leaders over the early furlongs and hung on well enough to be fourth at the end of the seven furlongs which Determine covered in 1 : 22. Lucky Martin was second and Rolyat third. Johnston expressed himself as greatly pleased with the showing.
