Sackett, Plesa Tied for Lead In ThistleDown Jockey Race1 THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 8. Jockeys Billy Sackett and Eddie Plesa are tied for leading riding honors through the first six days of the meeting here. Both have won five times. Sackett, who has looked very good thus far, rode a double on Mondays programto tie Plesa. Ralph Borgemenke is close on the leaders heels, having won with four mounts and is riding for one of the more powerful units here, that of trainer Tater Whatley. The leading apprentice rider is Brooklyn-ite Walter Blum, who has visited the winners, enclosure twice. Young Blum is just getting the feel of the track and veteran, observers are of the opinion that the youngster will lead the jockey list before long. While at Santa Anita last winter, the 19-year-old youth, who is under contract to Hirsch Jacobs, was the leading apprentice rider, beating William Harmatz. Harmatz recently won six races one afternoon at Bay Meadows.
