Ruane Tops National Riders List April 30 Count Shows 99 Tallies Calumet Farm, Round Table And Vester Wright Retain Their First-Place Rankings By Staff Correspondent At the conclusion of the racing throughout the country on April 30, apprentice John Ruane, the Irish rider, has wrested command from Clarence Meaux for 1958 jockey honors. The score, starting with the May 1 program, was 99 for Ruane and 93 for Meaux. At the previous compilation, on March 31, the pair were deadlocked with 78 winners each. Tlie three other National leaders remained unchanged, statistics compiled exclusively by Daily Racing Form reveal. Mrs. Gene Markeys Calumet Farm is in first place among the owners, the Travis Kerr Stables Round Table leads the horses. and-Vester R. "Tennessee" Wright is first among the trainers. As of April 30, Calumet had 82,050, the .Travis Kerr Stable was second with 61,017, Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs third with 323,144. The Jacobs stable won most during the past month earning 0,632 to 9,875 for Calumet and ,165 for Kerr. The William Hal Bishop stable has moved into fourth place, with 97,625, the string taking down 4,745 since the last accounting. Round Table was idle during the past month, so Ids total remains at 00,380. Calumets Tim Tarn, favorite for Saturdays Kentucky Derby, a victory in which would send him over the top, was second with 29,980, Promised Land, from the Jacobs stable, is next with 96,165. -~ Bishop in Second Place - Wright was 15 winners ahead of Bishop as of April 30, with 68 wins to 53. Henry Forrest ranked next with 42, followed by William Molter with 31 and James Jordan, who saddled 10 winners the past month, fifth with 28. The names of Bernard P. Bond and Hirsch Jacobs appear on the list the first time and they-jiave 27 winners each. / In the riders standings, William Shoemaker is fourth with 88 followed by Howard Grant, crack Maryland reinsman, with 84.
