Flaming Blue After Third Straight Has Seven Rivals In Cicero Handicap Skoronski Again Slated to Handle Gerber Colorbearer; Volition Offers Challenge SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 3. — As Sportsmans Park swings into its final week of spring racing, George Ger-bers crack six-year-old chestnut gelding. Flaming Blue, hopes to make it three in a row. The Blue Swords — Bonanza offspring takes on seven rivals in Mondays ,500 Midwestern Handicap at lis miles, slated as the seventh of nine races on the card. Winner of his two previous starts at the West side 5-furlong oval, Flaming Blue may go postward as the favorite. Flaming Blue won his first start of the meeting on April 24, a 6-furlong dash over such useful sprinters as Beau Clerc, High Authority, and Dermatologist. In posting his latest triumph a week ago, the Gerber charge stepped 1 1-lfr miles to defeat Wise Paul by four lengths. Flaming Blue registered two wins at the Fair Grounds, New Orleans, at 6 furlongs before shipping to Chicago. Popular Sportsmans Park Figure Anthony Skoronski, local jockey who is a permanent fixture each year at Sportsmans Park, currently is third in the jockey standings, and has received the call from Clifford Scott, trainer of Flaming Blue. The veteran reinsman wore Gerbers silks aboard Flaming Blue in his other two winning efforts. Second, choice in the field is Lyle Phillips Volition, who had some success in his Florida campaign last winter. Volition won two route affairs during the Hialeah meeting, the first at V-.z miles and the second at the shorter 15 a miles distance. Another of the more prominent-candidates is Wise Paul, from the Harold Gauer Stable. Wise Paul chased Flaming Blue home in their last encounter. Others in the race are George Alexandras Wartesia, Edward J. Grosfields Brother Joss, Mrs. Dorothy Wagners High Authority, Mrs. B. Niermans Dermatologist, and Mrs. D. Brackens Golden Hue.
