Pimlico Installs r Closed Circuit TV Network Will Beam Actual Running of Each Event to All Sections of Baltimore Plant PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 3. — Pimlico has installed a closed circuit television network which will beam pictures of the actual running of each race to all sections of the grandstand, clubhouse and Members Club throughout the meeting opening Monday, executive director Louis Pondfield announced. In addition to hanging on the rail to see the race, patrons will have a dozen TV screens set up at strategic locations throughout the plant to give them a better view of what is happening on the racing strip. "This installation is a natural for days on which the weather is bad outside," Pondfield said, "but even on normal days there are people in sections of the plant who can not get a clear view of the race track itself. These fans will now have a close-up view of every step of the action, thanks to television." Two TV screens have been installed in the inside areas of the new grandstand and two more are located on the main floor of the old grandstand. Others will be lor cated on the mezzanine, in. lounges of the new clubhouse and in the racing secretarys office where horsemen and racing offi- rials gather during the day. The network will be completed by four screens in the members clubhouse. The picture of the races will be transmitted from a camera located on the roof of the press box at right angles to the finish line, a feature "which -should be particularly popular when there are close finishes. The camera and network will be operated by expert technicians of the tracks patrol, which is charged with making official film records of each race for the stewards. The television network is expected to have maximum use for Pimlicos biggest annual eventthe 00,000 Preakness on May 17 — when some 40,000 persons will pack the historic track. 1
