Starting Gate Fails Mechanical failure of the starting gate caused a race to be declared "no contest" at the New Woodbine track at Etobicoke, Ontario, early last November. Only five of the 11 entrants in the race were able to get out of the gate and they were pulled up by their jockeys along the backstretch. M.. J. Risewick. supervisor of racing at Ontario tracks, and the stewards immediately declared the race off and all money wagered on the affair was refunded.
