Rock-Well Pete Ends Lucky Bounds Streak Johns and Hout Racer Length and Half in Clear in Ascot Sprint By BOB HURLEY Staff Correspondent ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga Falls Ohio, May 2. — Merele Mae Johns and Lois Marie Houts Rock-Well Pete snapped Lucky Bounds win streak at three straight as the Dispose gelding gained a length and a one-half win over Clyde Jennings Racer in the third race here at Ascot Park this afternoon. Jockey Guy Smithson, sidelined all week with an infected jaw after dental surgery, picked up his first winner astride Rock-Well Pete with his followers in the nun-baked audience receiving a 0.40 mutuel return. Leading trainer Fred Hannon added to his margin over fellow conditioners when he sent out Circle Y Stables Bushy to register by a length and one-half in the opening race. Bushy paid .80 and was timed in 1:25% for the 6V2 furlongs with stable rider Andre Boucher picking up his tenth winner of the meeting. Trainer Hannon has the same number of successes for his Canadian patrons and leads the Ascot list. O. C. Maxwells Longstreet closed fast in the second half of the double to score his second victory in four days for his owner-trainer. Longstreet was a half length clear of Jims Pal in the dash and paid 5.80 with Frank Northcutt up. The Daily Double was worth 0.80. Longstreet was timed in :54V5 for the distance and was hampering his rider by trying to lug in all during the final furlong, but the youthful apprentice did a good job hauling the Maxwell racer off the pacesetter and preserving the win. A fine crowd of 9,700 turned out in perfect weather despite the abounding interest in the Kentucky Derby and an Indian-Yankee ball game in nearby Cleveland.
