. * , Dixie Renewal Shaping Up Well One-Eyed King and Langton Breeze Equally Weighted At 120; Pop Corn Has 118 By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 7.— The 58th running of Pimlicos 5,000 added Dixie Handicap, which will be presented at a mile and 3 furlongs over the turf course this Saturday, looms one of the most interesting renewals in the long history of the race. Scheduled to share the post of honor under 120 pounds are Cain Hoy Stables One-Eyed King and Tower Hill Farms Langton Breeze, with Greentree Stables Pop Corn, the defending champion, receiving two pounds at 118 pounds. Others expected to compete are F. Ambrose Clarks Amber Diver, 118; Brook-meade Stables Oligarchy, 116; Mrs. Ada Ij. Rices Air Pilot, 115; Feme L. Grissoms Innishowen, 114; Mrs. H. L. Nathensons Midontrail, 112; Phillip Williams Tuscan Flash, 111 and C. Mahlon Klines Mystic II., 110 pounds. One-Eyed King accounted for the Magic City and Lincoln Special last season and has been-a stakes winner over the grass during the current term, taking the inaugural running of the Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park. The will be ridden in 1 I the Dixie by Manuel Ycaza. Inactive This. Year Langton Breeze has not raced during this term but was an eight-time winner last year. On one occasion he whipped One-Eyed King while spotting that rival four pounds, which is an indication of his ability. Dave Erb will be down from New York to handle the riding assignment. Pop Corn gained his most noteworthy triumph in last years Dixie and recently displayed a continued fondness for the local grass when he equaled the mile and one-sixteenth course record of 1:43%. As in - that engagement, and in the majority of , his outings, Pop Corn will be handled by Johnny Ruane. Oligarchy, whose stablemate Sword Dancer looms the favorite for the Preak-ness, will be returning to the grass after a rather mediocre campaign on the main track. That he will fancy the footing is highly probable, for as a three-year-old in 57 he was second to Jabneh in the Hialeah Turf Handicap. Trainer Elliott Burch has engaged the competent Karl Korte to do the riding. Air Pilot, third in the recent Wilwyn Handicap, as well as the earlier Gulfstream Cap, is scheduled to be ridden by Jack Leonard. In his most recent outing he was just a head behind Piano Jim in the Laurel Handicap. Innishowen, who_ will be handled by Keith Stuart, was second behind Pop Corn here on opening day, while Midontrial was third in that test. Midontrial will be ridden by Larry Adams. Mystic n., winner of the Westchester earlier in the season and more recently second behind Whitley in the Excelsior and fourth in the Valley Forge, appears well treated by the weights and shapes up as a definite threat under Mike Sorrentino.
