WARY LAD, slow to settle into stride, was carefully handled while showing a tendency to lug in under pressure and outfinisjied COUNTERCHECK. The latter, badly outrun early, moved boldly through the stretch and fought it out gamely. STEERFORTH held a menacing position and lacked sufficient late response. Blocks claim of foul against the winner for alleged interference entering the stretch was disallowed. FLASH CAN weakened after having been hard pressed for command.
