JOYS DAPHNE was sent to the outside for the drive and, responding to good handling, disposed of the leaders and held OPERA DATE safe. The latter finished strongly under brisk urging but could not reach the top one. ALANS BABE gave a sharp effort and had no mishap. BATTLE DWITE set the pace until inside the last eighth, then weakened. GOOD SIGN, prominent to the final furlong, pulled up sore. OUR SWEET WENDY could not keep up. LADY PONDER was never dangerous. AT SUNRISE tired. NOORSAGA and WILLYS PAL showed nothing. ADOLPHS JOY, away fast, dropped out of.serious contention soon after the start. BOXWOOD saved ground to the stretch, responded to strong handling when sent to the outside for the drive and wore down UNCLE HILLY in the last sixteenth. UNCLE HILLY raced GENDERO into defeat and settled into the stretch with a good lead but could not withstand the winner. VATERNISH was unable to threaten the leaders during the drive. MIKES IMAGE lacked early foot. GENDERO made the pace until challenged by UNCLE HILLY and then gave way. Overweight— Boxwood, 1 pound; Gendero, 1; Swig, 1. HUSTLE took command at once and, fencing willingly the entire trip, cleared the final hedge and drew out to win with speed in reserve. DEBATER dropped back after beginning alertly, moved up steadily after the third hurdle and closed determinedly but could not get to the winner. PARAPET gave a fair effort and had no mishap. LE BLUIZARD, far back early, could not threaten the leaders. CANDACE, prominent to the eighth brush, tired. CABLE LEAD began poorly. - BUREAUCRACY was never dangerous. CLOSE ARRAY could not keep up. STARETTA took command at once and, after establishing a long lead, retained her advantage without need of urging. SAYASEA raced nearest STARETTA from the outset but was not good enough for the winner. OAK CLUSTER, away sluggishly and racing wide, was unable to threaten the top pair during the stretch run. CUBIC made a mild bid in the early stretch and then weakened. ROYAL MARGE could not keep up. MADRE had no excuse. CLASSIC CHARM had early speed but failed to stay. SAMARIA, forced back after the start, failed to recover. BALLINGARRY pulled up sore. MID EVENING showed nothing. SLAMSTOWN raced RUSS-MARIE into defeat and settled into the stretch with a good lead but was hard ridden during the drive to withstand GAME CALLED. The latter, away slowly and racing wide to the stretch, finished fast and was getting to the winner. NATURE WALK, outrun early, saved ground during the drive but was unable to overtake the leaders. STOP RINGING, prominent until inside the stretch, faltered and probably needed her race. RUSS-MARIE went to the front and made the pace until challenged by SLAMSTOWN at the stretch turn, then gave way. PETULANCE showed nothing. RAKAHANGA, on the outside the entire trip, could not threaten the leaders. SASSETTA lacked early foot. MID PACIFIC and PINK SLIP had rough races. ACCELERATION had brief speed.
