Brothers Ride Dead Heat The opening race on the card at Los Alamitos on April 16, 1958, brought a finish as stirring as they come, with half of the eight-horse field passing the finish line almost as a team. The photo revealed that Penny Wheep had won by a nose, with Little Hot Shot and Ariel Jeep deadheating for second place, just a nose in front of Gray Air. A novelty of the dead heat was that Little Hot Shot and Ariel Jeep were ridden by Darrell Banks and his brother, Ronald, respectively. -
